Renuka Kotagiri, the founder of Cheyutha and an HIV patient herself, is feeling pretty down these days. In 2005 she won a major victory in getting the government to provide free ART medication. But now she speaks with a tone of despair.
“Many women, and men, nurse a feeling of unworthiness and despair for being dark,” says the founder of the campaign, which has spread throughout the country by word of mouth and is attracting interest now from activists in other countries.
The government thought the documentary “India’s Daughter” too shocking for any of us to see. But we’ve seen it. We’re not shocked. We know the rules against us. But something is changing lately. When we get molested, we are striking back.
