Shogofa Az, 19, a member of the Afghan Women's Writing Project, began her education at age five during the Taliban era by studying at a neighbor's house in Kandahar. She is one of seven children and wants to be a doctor. She finished high school in 2012 and is preparing for university studies at a private program in Kabul.
Teen writer Shogofa Az wants Afghans to stop segregating themselves in Pashtun, Hazara, Shias and Sunnis. “Respect me as a human and I will respect you as a human,” she writes.
“The women in Afghanistan know how to stand even if they fall down 100 times,” writes Shogofa Az in her essay about the strong neighborhood women who inspire her in Kabul.
