George W. Bush is a pauper relative to his running mate Dick Cheney. Bush netted $14 million when he sold his interest in the Texas Rangers baseball team two years ago. That and other good deals provide him investment income of $1 million per year. As chief executive officer of Halliburton, Cheney receives an annual salary of $1.3 million to $3 million, along with stock options. His stock in the company is valued at $40 million. In May, Cheney sold 100,000 shares of Halliburton at $50.97 a share, or roughly $5 million, just before the stock began to tumble in value. Halliburton is the world’s largest supplier to oil producers of everything from computer software to drill bits.
