Women's eNews offers internships in three departments:
Editorial,
Arabic Editorial,
Marketing and
Development. Each of these internship programs offers a fabulous opportunity to students and new graduates to gain real-life experience in their chosen fields.
What our former interns say about their Women's eNews experience.
Women's eNews is the premier nonprofit, Internet-based news-gathering service covering women's issues. We are not interested in fashions, horoscopes or diet tips. We are interested in electoral politics, court decisions, pay equity and reproductive health.
Our editorial interns are Women's eNews cub reporters, working in Women's eNews' Manhattan offices, thrown in the thick of covering news in the media capital of the world. We also ask our interns to assist in some organizational tasks and with the 21 Leaders for the 21st Century project. A standing assignment is to write the weekly news wrap column called Cheers and Jeers and write two to four bylined news stories during the course of a 10-week internship with Women's eNews. Editorial interns work closely with Women's eNews editors and benefit from one-to-one coaching on news writing and careful editing. The final product, a Women's eNews article, is distributed to every major media outlet in the United States and to readers in more than 120 nations.
Interns are paid and receive bylines on their published work. We believe very strongly that the Editorial Internship provides an outstanding opportunity for young journalists to develop their portfolios with professionally produced news stories focused on substantive issues.
Qualifications: Strong news-writing and reporting skills, knowledge of AP style, interest in current events, a motivation to cover important stories, familiarity with women's issues and a sense of humor. Our editorial interns have typically attained senior standing at a college or university, are recent graduates or are currently enrolled in a graduate journalism program. International students must be eligible for regular employment in the United States. Send cover letter, resume and 3-5 clips to:

Women's eNews publishes its stories in translation on an Arabic language Web site and has a surprisingly high readership in Arabic-speaking areas of the world. Women's eNews is committed to providing services to this region and to providing unbiased stories on under-reported issues to Arabic speakers. "While at Women's eNews, I was challenged to produce news stories that provoked and educated. At the same time, I was provided with a nurturing environment where I was allowed to learn, and encouraged to admit mistakes and ask questions. I leave after 10 weeks with multiple clips under my belt, visits to the United Nations to boast about and a worldwide network of contacts that I can tap into at any time in the future." --Anju Mary Paul, Winter 2006
"As the Development Intern, my primary activities included fundraising, donation tracking, data entry, mailings and preparing for board meetings and events. I helped the organization overhaul their member and donor databases and talked directly to important donors on the phone. This internship exposed me to the behind-the-scenes financial work and event preparation that go into running a nonprofit." --Kristin Soong, Columbia University, Fall 2005 "Interning at Women's eNews has been an invaluable experience. I started as a Marketing Intern and was able to work my way up to Development Associate. Being able to work closely with the WeNews staff has allowed me to learn all aspects of running an online news organization. I would recommend this internship to anyone who really wants to get a hands-on experience of working in online media or journalism in general." --Angelica Padilla, Fall 2004-Fall 2005 "The Women's eNews internship was so refreshing! So rarely are interns given the chance to write and report from day one--not just stories their editors assign, but stories that have been swimming around in their brains, waiting to be let out. But that's exactly what I got to do. Coming to work every day was exciting and fun, and the staff made me feel like a valued member of the team from the very start. Watching the organization grow and its reach expand--and being an active part of that process--was amazing."
---Robin Hindery, Summer/Fall 2004 Reporter, The Associated Press
"From day one, I was put to work researching and writing stories in an exciting environment. Please donate so that aspiring journalists like me can continue to learn alongside an excellent team of professionals." --Marieme Daff, Summer 2002
"During my internship at Women's eNews, I learned that, as a journalist, I could combine my efforts to report and write in a fair way with my ideals of social justice and gender equity."
--Laurence Pantin, Winter 2001
freelance correspondent in Mexico City
"During my internship at Women's eNews, I was able to do serious stories about important issues ranging from the rape of Immigration and Naturalization Service detainees to the exploitation of domestic workers." --Vaishalee Mishra, Summer 2001
Writer, News India-Times
"I nearly stopped breathing when my editor at Women's eNews told me that I was to spend the first day of my internship covering a meeting at the United Nations' special session on the status of women. I wondered if I could still escape--just pack my bags, devise a convincing excuse and go back home to Missouri. I had never covered a meeting before! "In the two months that followed, my horizons expanded beyond belief. I interviewed the assistant secretary-general of the United Nations, first, and then a New York congresswoman. My editor sent me to Philadelphia to cover events surrounding the Republican Convention and I stood within arm's reach of Hillary Clinton at a press conference on the steps of City Hall in New York. By the time my internship at Women's eNews ended, I felt capable of almost anything. I still do"
--Laura Marble, Summer 2000
