Black girls and women gathered at Columbia University last weekend to celebrate progress and build momentum for their community within the racial justice movement. “My heart is still shattered to rediscover how utterly invisible black girls are to everyone but one another,” said presenter Melissa Harris-Perry.

NEW YORK (WOMENSENEWS)– An art exhibit curated by A Long Walk Home founder Scheherazade Tillet on “Picturing Black Girlhood” was just one of the features of the recent three day Black Girl Movement Conference at Columbia University. Teen Voices reporter Sadie Kramer live tweeted the event.
