(WOMENSENEWS)–Burglars invaded the office of the Welfare Warriors Mothers Organizing Center in Milwaukee, Wis., on Christmas night, removing computers that contained all of the organization’s files, the organization reported. It was the second break-in four months.

Pat Gowens, a spokeswoman for Welfare Warriors, said that burglars took an aged computer and three recently donated Mac computers, two printers, a fax machine, a VCR and a microwave.

She said the activists on behalf of welfare recipients, mostly women, cannot file an insurance claim for the second burglary because they will lose insurance and be denied coverage by all companies in Wisconsin for three years.

There was no word on whether the burglaries were connected with the welfare rights activism that has antagonized some members of the community.
