Outrage Works: Store Pulls Women-as-Meat T-Shirts

(WOMENSENEWS)—Urban Outfitters, a major national retail chain, has agreed to remove men’s T-shirts depicting naked women as “tender, juicy beef” after receiving complaints.

Jennifer O’Donnell, a store operations assistant at Urban Outfitters headquarters in Philadelphia, said she has received “a few” complaints from the public and added that other employees may also have fielded objections.

“The shirt is not typical of Urban Outfitters and we recognize that,” O’Donnell told the Yale Daily News. “We took our customers’ concerns into consideration,” she said.

The shirt shows a naked kneeling cowgirl labeled like cuts of beef–chuck, thigh and loin– and the inscription, “Kansas Cattle Queen.”
